RES NEWS Roadshow 2017 summary and a look at GDPR
Yesterday, the 15th of June, the RES NEWS Roadshow 2017 was held at Nijkerk. The roadshow is hosted by Dupaco and is held every year. This year it is at two locations and dates. The first one was in Nijkerk and the second one is on 22th of June in Den Bosch. More info on the second roadshow in Den Bosch can be found here. So if you find this article interesting and would like to go to the roadshow you still have the chance! In this blog I will give a small summary of the roadshow and I will tell some more about one of the primary subjects GDPR.
Why go to the RES NEWS Roadshow ?
The roadshow is the perfect place to meet up with other RES partners, professionals and of course RES employees . There is a friendly atmosphere with lunch and drinks and enough time to share knowledge and customer stories. In between the lunch and drinks there are presentations about RES. This year there where 5 presentations :
- The digital transformation
- RES v10 Demo
- Topdesk and the integration with RES
- Identity and Access GDPR
- Business Case IT-Value
The Digital Transformation
This was the first presentation of the day and was held by Dupaco and RES together. It reminded everyone of how far technology has come in the last 10 years and how employees expect the same level of easy and performance from their digital workspace as of their smartphones. That is why you need to keep up and go from a Traditional Workspace to a Modern Workspace (see image below).
RES products are of course a great way to create and manage a modern workspace. By enabling your business with a modern workspace you can battle against shadow IT and Cyber security, creating more free time to innovate the business.
RES v10 Demo
The next presentation was a demo of RES ONE v10. To see all new features in RES ONE v10 I would recommend reading my blog on v10 here. During the presentation we got a small preview of RES ONE Workspace v10.1 and Certificated based Application security. I will write more on this when RES ONE v10.1 is out in the first weeks of July 2017. At the start of this presentation we as an audience had a chance tell the product manager Martin Lako what we liked about the RES products and things we thought could be improved, which was great!
Topdesk and the integration with RES
Just like RES, Topdesk is a Dutch company and the two products work great together. Topdesk is a great product (Service Management) for self services and creating servicedesk tickets. It doesn’t have an automation module but through API’s it is possible to link Topdesk to RES ONE Automation or RES ONE Identity Director, so it’s giving it automation possibility.
There is a Seminar on RES & Topdesk on 6 July 2017 in Amersfort ,more information can be found here.
Identity and Access GDPR
The next speaker was Eddie van Ravensteijn, the do-it-all of RES. He gave a presentation about Identity and Access with the focus on GDPR and how RES can help with getting GDRP ready. First Eddie took us back in the past at the start of RES and reminded us about RES PowerMenu , PowerFuse and Wisdom.
But then, on to a more serious subject: GDPR.
What is GDPR?
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and was designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy. The key articles of the GDPR, as well as information on its business impact, can be found on this site.
There are 7 Key Data Collection Principles of GDPR:
- Data must be processed lawfully fairly and in a transparent manner
- Data must only be collected for specified explicit and legitimate purposes
- Collected data must be adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary
- Collected data must be accurate, and where necessary kept up to date
- Data must be retained only as long as necessary
- Data must be processed securely
- There must be accountability in all processing activity

Business Case IT-Value
The last presentation was from IT-Value and took us through a business case where a large number of Service Desk tickets were automated which in turn gave a great ROI (Return of Investment). Besides the business case the presentation talked about the workspace in 2025. What can we do to manage real virtual workspaces like Microsoft HoloLens? And how important is it to start thinking about the future of workspaces?
The last thing discussed in the presentation was the new RES HUB, a sharing platform, more on this in a following blog.
Conclusion
All in all it was a great day meeting lots of RES professionals and listening to great presentations. And a lot of food for thought like GDPR and the Workspace of 2025.
