Free XenServer Backup Tool Version 2 is OUT!
Today I’m proud to announce that the Free XenServer (Citrix Hypervisor) Backup tool version 2.0 is released. It took me a while to make time free to update the tool with feature requests and bug fixes. But it’s done. So what has changed in Version 2.0?:
Changelog V2.0:
- Now support for network drives, enter a path like \\DOMAIN\Share at Enter backup path and the tool will mount the drive. The task user does need to have write permissions on the share.
- Temp issue fixed, the tmp file created by the export will now be written to the backup destination instead of C drive.
- GUI hangs on run now backup is fixed, run now backups will now be set as a windows task that runs directly. You can manage your RUN NOW tasks in the scheduled tasks window.
- Performance improvements.
You can download the tool here from the original blog where you will also find the PowerShell script that’s the heart of the tool.
If you have any requests for me to add in version 3.0 (like incremental backups) feel free to leave it in the comment section.
If you like the tool, feel free to donate with PayPal to support the development.
I hope this was informative. For questions or comments you can always give a reaction in the comment section or contact me:
Hi Chris,
Thanks for this script. I’m testing it out now. It seems to bomb out exporting the snapshot if an existing snapshot already exists. I removed all snapshots and ran it again and it worked. Maybe something to build into the logic?
Let me know if you need additional data from me.
Steve
Ok will check it out for next build!
HI, Cris
Great script. i´m start tests on my enviroment and work very well.
but on scheduler we can´t choose dayly, weekly or twice a day . and we got many VM´s can´t do all backups in one day. i´d like to choose weekly for some VM´s.
At the moment it’s only possible to schedule the task daily with the GUI.
But the gui just creates a windows schedule task so if you open windows task scheduler you can manually change the schedule.
Great script BUT
1. l cannot delete some of the schedules l created
2. Works fine but l get the below from my logs of late – and backup does not work
2019-12-08-08-28-42 — Start Backup for #1DC to Z:\
2019-12-08-08-28-42 — Create Snapshot #1DC
2019-12-08-08-28-44 — Export Snapshot #1DC
2019-12-08-08-28-45 — ERROR —- Export Snapshot #1DC failed
2019-12-08-08-28-45 — Delete Snapshot #1DC
2019-12-08-08-28-45 — Start ZIP of Backup
2019-12-08-08-28-45 — Delete non ZIPd backup
2019-12-08-08-28-45 — Backup done
You can always delete a scheduled task in your windows scheduled tasks the tool uses the build in windows task scheduler. Do you get any more info from the log file why the snapshot fails? Is there a already a snapshot?
Hope this helps
Hello, your work is very spectacular … here is a suggestion, in the next version, you can put your script on a backup replica line … as server to server …
best regard!
Hi, I use your scrip and its perfect. Can You add someting like 7-zip (free compress program) – Your zip compressor use only 1 core and is slow. All XenServer have more than only one core…
